Buttercup https://powerpuffgirls.fandom.com/wiki/Buttercup_(1998_TV_series) |
One of
my favorite childhood characters is Buttercup. Her persona, the rough grumpy
hotheaded tomboy girl can already be seen from her appearance. She enjoys
fighting, dislikes planning, and prefers to act rather than plan. She enjoys
being dirty but despised taking a bath. Her character and attitude are
supported by the color palette; the black coupled with green made her bold and
vibrant, indicating her extremely powerful character.
She was frequently animated with slanted
eyes, giving the appearance that she was always grumpy, in comparison with her
sisters who were frequently animated with their full wide-open eyes. Buttercup
is also drawn in a unique style; we can see how she was created utilizing all
of the basic geometric forms (square, triangle, and circle) and it is very
geometric. Because she is the most distinct from her sisters, her persona was
built in such a manner that she sticks out. She was also a character in the
film who cried the least to maintain her tough image, but she will cry when her
favorite blanket is taken away, depriving her of something special once more.
Buttercup is also recognized as the most powerful character, yet she frequently
loses control of her emotions, making her vulnerable.
Even though she was designed to wear a
skirt and a hairpin in Powerpuff girl Z which is the Japanese series
"Powerpuff girl Z", she was illustrated with a giant hammer as her
weapon which supports her character and the design of her appearance to keep
her character and personality well and not make her less tomboy. They preserve
her distinctive hue which is a bold green and her short hair as her signature.
She's also frequently animated enraged and loud in both the original and
Japanese series, showing people how strong she is and doesn't want anyone to
see her soft side.

Coraline Scene That Uses Chiaroscurohopkinscinemaddicts.typepad.com/.a/6a00e553e083328834011168c5554f970c-pi |
In art, chiaroscuro is the use of dramatic contrasts between light and dark, generally stark contrasts that influence the entire piece. This is a scene from the film "Coraline" that employs the chiaroscuro technique. Coraline's destiny was read by the two sisters in this scene, and they predicted that something dreadful will happen in her life and that she should be cautious. The lighting enhances the drama of the scenario and heightens the intensity of the situation. It creates a dramatic impression not only by the lighting but also by how the event is presented to the viewer.
It may also have given the other character, Coraline, a bit of a shock because she was feeling the intensity in that scene. Because chiaroscuro scenes in cartoons are generally utilized on crucial scenes, it can make the audience remember the specific chiaroscuro scene anytime there is a narrative or twist in the movie. This scene didn't seem crucial at first because Coraline's other world seems magnificent, but it turns out that the two sisters' warning was correct, it was hazardous, and Coraline fell for the trap, making the scene important.
It also emphasizes the characters' mood so that the audience can perceive how serious they are and the details of their demeanor. It drew the viewer's attention to the character. The dramatic lighting also draws the viewer's attention since the juxtaposition of light and dark is eye-catching. It may also make the objects illuminated more vivid. As a result, chiaroscuro is frequently employed in the art, such as painting, movie scenes, sketching, and so on. Chiaroscuro is a technique that was created in the early 1500s and is being used today.
