INSTRUCTIONS

Task 3A | Type Design & Communication

We are given the task to create a typeface. First things first we need to make a rough sketch, after we get feedback and approval we can continue to proceed to Adobe Illustrator and Font Lab. The letters we need to design are;

a e t k g r i y m p n ! # , .

I then search for some references and I think I might take some ideas from these pictures.

I then proceed to do some sketches in Procreate and I came up with these.

After getting the feedback and approval from Mr. Vinod, I proceed to deconstruct the typeface I choose that I think is similar to what I sketched which is Janson Text LT Std.

I then tried to construct my font, and I finished it and proceed to continue in FontLab. After I'm done pasting the letters I adjusted the kerning.

I then export it and try it in Microsoft Word.

After I got my feedback again from week 10, I corrected some of the letters like "M" and "Y" that should be mirrored. and the "!" "," "." shouldn't be circles but squares, and "#" should vary in strokes.

I then replaced the letters corrected in FontLab, and proceed to the poster with my typeface. The poster needed to be in A4 and the credit line needed to be in the font of universe LT STD 8pt exported in 300dpi grayscale.

FEEDBACK

Week 9

Specific Feedback:
Ensure to not use an inline as part of the design like the letter "I" in the sketch, also the "O" in the sketch is wrong.

Week 10

The letter "M" and "Y" should be mirrored, "!" "," " ." Should be squares, not circles. Lastly the "#" should vary in strokes.

REFLECTIONS

Experience:
This assignment gave me the opportunity to learn how to create a font as well as how to use the application called FontLab.

Observation:
I feel that creating fonts is very time-consuming, as well as we need to use several different applications just to make one font.

Findings:
I find that serif/without serifs font really plays a huge part in typography as well as the design word. Making your own font is really needed in the design word to match your artwork.
