LECTURES

All lectures are completed in Task 1 Exercises

INSTRUCTION

Task 3B | Type Design & Communication

We are assigned to Typographically express a social statement, greetings, or the like that is pertinent to the Taylor's University campus community or society at large. I chose the sentence "Happy Easter" to design it and make it a sticker on telegram. Students are not allowed to use existing typeface except if it's modified, we are also not allowed to use gradient. I first started with the five sketches.

Fig 1.0 Easter Sticker Sketches

After getting feedback from Mr. Vinod, he let me choose the sketch that doesn't have a double bunny so I proceed with the bottom left sketch. I traced it in Adobe Illustrator.

After receiving feedback from Mr. Vinod, I was instructed that it should be black and white rather than grayscale and that the color should not change but rather be one hue with varying shades. I went back to Adobe Illustrator and made some corrections.

I made some adjustments to it and I think it's good so I proceed with the colored ones.

I exported it as png and proceed to make it as a sticker in telegram, and this was the final result.

FEEDBACK

Week 11

General feedback: play around with the strokes and thickness of the lettering.

Specific feedback: minimalize rabbits as the design component.

General feedback: the sticker size should be 2048 px max and 1024 px min, use a white outline for the sticker

Specific feedback: don't use too much variety of color, don't put the color on greyscale but use black and white instead

REFLECTION

Experience:
I learned new things from this assignment and that is to design a sticker. Nowadays stickers are used often in chatting applications such as Telegram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and others to express more than just a "type", and now I have the ability to make them.

Observation:
This assignment is quite complex especially since we need to experience more on the sketch to come up with the best design, playing with the colors without gradient is also a challenge.

Findings:
I find that every assignment from this module is related to one another so designing this sticker, I already know how to do the step by step and even so, I still need to struggle to succeed.

This book explains to us how to do lettering or calligraphy using their Stabilo pen. It's perfect for beginners to learn how to do calligraphy or lettering, it also works with other brushes or even digital brushes like apple pencil with the setting of a calligraphy brush. it's very detailed from the positioning of the brush, warm-ups or practices to do, even simple knowledge of serif and san-serif. It helps me a lot to design the lettering for the sentence "Happy Easter".
