Task 2 / Key Artwork and Collateral

LECTURES

All lectures are completed in Task 1 Exercises

INSTRUCTIONS

TASK 2A | Key Artwork

We were tasked with creating a crucial artwork that functions as a logo that represents us for assignment 2A. We must use our names/initials and artwork must be made from type.

1. Sketches

Fig 1.0 Key Artwork First Sketches

After feedback given from Mr. Vinod, I continued with the concept of an Ambigram (an image of a printed word or phrase that may or should be orientated in one of two directions for seeing or reading. When turned upside down, it produces the same picture) since my name is just two letters on repeat (a and n) and I want my key artwork to also repeatable but upside down.

Fig 1.1 Key Artwork Second Sketches

I decided to proceed with my second sketch. Since I was inspired by my favorite milk which is oat milk and most of the eco-friendly stuff I have, I wanted to make it plant vibe. I then searched for the color palette and came across a green/yellow color theme which I think suits my key artwork since plants' color decay over time from green to yellow to brown.

TASK 2B | Collateral

I first proceed with the gif animation and I came up with this.

After knowing that we can't make the gif move from one to another place, I simplify it.

Since I want my key artwork to be plant-vibe, some sort of eco-friendly themed, I googled and looked around what stuff I have is eco-friendly and most of it is clothes and tote bags that are made from recycled cloth, and the last 2 items I chose a mini plant and stamp.

Fig 1.4 Chosen Collateral

After making the collateral I proceed with the Instagram post and we're assigned to do a minimum of 9 Instagram posts including the collateral and our own picture/self portrait

FEEDBACK

Week 6:

General Feedback:
Try to explore more than juts "clean and simple" as the keyword.

Specific Feedback:
Works as an ambigram, but a bit too curvy.

Week 7:

General Feedback:
Remember that key artwork should represent you.

Specific Feedback:
Since losing the curves doesn't work try to make it work for the collateral.

Week 8:
Independent learning week.

REFLECTIONS

Experience:

I find that we can actually design based on ourselves when we work on the key artwork and we can even turn it into a brand.

Observations:

I feel like we can come up with a lot of designs even if it's based on ourselves since one person can have a lot of different personalities that can represent a lot of different designs even if each of them represents them.

Findings:

I find the Instagram post a bit tricky since we have to know which post comes first.

Typographic Design: Form and Communication

This book guides graphic designers and provides an in-depth look into the written word. When done well, typography can express far more than simply words. Typographic design influences how you react to a message, the connections you develop, and, ultimately, the success of the communication.
