INSTRUCTIONS
In this project, we are required to apply all of the lectures learned from week 1 onwards. We are assigned to create an abstract motion based on the theme of our choice. We also have to create a mood-board, storyboard, and animatic.
Research
I first start by choosing a theme of what I want to do and the song that will suit the project. After that, I proceeded with the storyboard and I compiled all of it onto slides for viewers to easily see my project proposal.

I chose the song "I Love You So" by The Walters, released in 2014 because of the band’s strong orchestral, especially that somewhat imitates the early 18's and 19's music. Every lyric has a deep meaning which somehow gives me a strong sense of emotion while listening to it. I then began cutting the song into 30 seconds. I then created each scene in After Effects and due to the limited time given, our lecturer suggested us to use an existing document therefore I used a lot of elements that I previously used in the module "Information Design" and began tweaking it a bit.

I then move it to After Effects to animate it. Since I already separated each elements on the layer it's quite easy for me to animate it simply.

I then proceeded to do the next scene which was the girl reading the book, It was quite simple to do as most of the elements were already done and I just needed to create the book. I then continued doing the third frame which is the scissor and ribbon appearing, for this scene I used an old background but created new elements of the scissor and the ribbon. In this scene, the ribbon represents our relationship with a certain someone and the scissors represent future breakups.

This next scene is I think far the hardest yet the most satisfying to look at. For this scene, I didn't create anything in Illustrator and fully did it in After Effects. I wanted to create a motion of book opening since for this project the concept behind it is someone who remembers that she cut a certain relationship with a certain someone after looking back at photos filled with memories of people in her past. At first I animated the book to flip and only having pictures at the end of the album but I realized that it looks to empty so I added screenshot from the module Information Design as this project also used a lot of elements from that module's final project.
For the fifth scene, I at first wanted to create the zoom motion to the first picture on the top, but I realized that the song was too slow and zooming in that close just doesn't work well with the music so I only did a bit of the zoom to the upper part of the book which is the first photo placed on top. I switched scenes 6 and 7 since it works best that the girl quarrels with the boy only after finding out that she's been cheated on. I then slowly compiled each scene just to realize that the song matched the scene if only the first scene was removed. The beat of the music should match with scene number 7 since it's when the drama happens and where emotion starts, so I removed the first scene and decided that it's best to not include it rather than forcing the tempo of the music. I then proceeded to do the next scene which is the girl crying, I used the same frame as scene number 2 from the storyboard and just added some tears in it. The next scene is the ribbon cutting.
This scene represents how the girl ended their relationship after finding out she got cheated. The scissors represent the girl stepping up to make the decision and the ribbon represents their relationship where it broke and torn apart, just like how the girl and the boy used to become one by being a couple, and now the ribbon broke into 2 representing the boy and the girl parts away. This scene filled me with emotion since it represents me in the past when I got cheated and didn't even dare to step up and make a decision to part away, but in the end, after feeling like it was too much to handle I finally decided to "cut the ribbon" and part away. The next scene is the same as scene 4, but the focus of this scene would be the picture below. I made changes for the next scene which is scene 12 since it was just too many words for the viewer to understand the context so I changed the scene into a girl fighting with her friend since she forces her to do something out of her capability and in this case, the girl was forced to go on a trip even when she stated she doesn't have money.
This thing happens in my life and sometimes being a people pleaser is draining. I remember having to ask my father for the extra money he funds me fully to go to Japan and even went shopping there a lot. In the end, my dad funds me again to travel but now remembering that I asked for extra money just to fulfill someone's ego hurts myself. I was feeling mixed emotions when doing this scene. The next scene is the same exact scene as scene 9, for the rest 3 scenes, I wanted to convey a message that it is okay to remember the past, even if it causes pain. For me, I'm the type of person who will have a hard time moving on from things, I sometimes even feel like I'm stuck in 2020 covid era, knowing that it's been four years since then. Remembering pain helps me to move on from a relationship that will never work out or one-sided whether it's with a friend or partner. I then compiled all of the scene into one and added the music in.
I was glad that I'm able to finish in time, this project has been fun and it's nice that I can represent a bit of what I went through in this project.
Overall, this project and this module have helped me a lot in developing a storyboard and animating in After Effects, there are a lot of animation styles that I learned like the book Flipping. It is also important that it is okay to use existing elements for motion graphics and we don't have to create everything from zero. I really enjoy the improvement I did after completing this module and I wish to be able to apply what I have learned in future assignments or career.
