INSTRUCTIONS
In this project, we will have to pull together what I have learned from previous exercises and projects. Moving with the channel selected in Project 2, we will produce a channel identity motion graphic video. Design a mood board based on my idea/concept. All the while consider and incorporate suitable sound that matches the motion tempo. First of all, we will create a moldboard and storyboard, where we will develop rough concepts and test a lot of different ideas with digital tools on suitable software. The final part of the project will involve identifying and showcasing my version of the channel ident bumper in the relevant formats.
Research
A brief research of the channel and mood board is written in Project 2 (Channel Bumper)
After doing a brief research, I gathered all of the details and essence of the channel I chose which is Riot Games. From what I gathered, Riot Games is very strong in the concept of their skins, they always have a vibrant color even for their dark-themed skins. I feel like somehow their skin concept is always big in variety, from the simplest design to the most unique heavy-themed skin. I then proceeded to compile the storyboard from Project 2 and the storyboard I created for this project.
I want to depict the thoughts of "What Riot Games is" and I feel a strong essence that the company highly focuses on arts and not just the game, the trailer is always very cinematic and every character they make always comes with a very interesting back story. I wanted to incorporate a bit of storytelling in the channel identity. I then began tweaking a bit of the storyboard and tried to animate some of the motion graphics in After Effects.

I then proceed to work on the second frame in After
Effects. I tried to maintain the same style by continuing to use the original starting frame
and the music from Project 2. In this frame, I want to focus on characters from Valorant which is called "agent". Every agent in Valorant has
their own set of roles and abilities that make the game more interesting. For this project, I am considering focusing on the color red and white to maintain the iconic colors of the company. To show that Valorant is
an online 5VS5 FPS game, I animated a bullet
flying through the scene because it reflects the game’s action and goal. Also, not only does this element emphasize the dynamic part of Valorant, but
also brings much appeal and for the concept
of the animation.

For the agents, I chose Iso and Skye, two characters I have played several times in Valorant. I always used to play Skye often, but lately, Riot had to nerf her abilities. She is still fun to play but now I prefer other agents in the game. Skye is also the first character that I draw with my pen tablet. That very first sketch of her is the wallpaper of my laptop now and reminds me of my early digital art experiences as well as the game. Regarding Iso, I chose him since the last Valorant tournament took place in Shanghai where Iso as the Chinese agent is greatly associated with promotional materials for the event. Iso is the only duelist I am able to play. Using him is enjoyable as his abilities are easy for me to understand. By including Iso and Skye in this project, it feels more intimate because those are my favorite characters, giving me the familiar sense to do this project.

For this frame, I decided to shift the focus from Valorant to another top game from Riot which is League of Legends. League of Legends has been a hit for almost 15 years and is currently the game that players download the most from Riot, it's a 5VS5 MOBA game and it has hundreds of characters, we call it “Champions”. Their role and abilities are also different, almost like Valorant but with different game concepts. Although I only play less than ten League of Legends matches, I like how they have a strong concept in the skin created for the champions. In 2024, wait times for League are longer and, it seems like the community is not as big as Valorant now since a lot of players have been inactive. This frame should aim to share how Valorant and League share similarities and transition from Valorant to League.
For this frame, I felt like animating the scene where we have to select champions in the game League of Legends. However, I have improvised and made modifications to the skin choice part. I wanted to focus on Ahri as the chosen champion. Though I often do not play as her, Ahri is often featured in League of Legends cinematic trailers. Also, Ahri is one character that has the most amount of skin in the game and has the most expensive skin that ever existed in League of Legends. Regarding the choice of Ahri and the animation of choosing champions for the match, this frame should capture an appealing and recognizable part of the gameplay in League of Legends, also, it highlights the distinct concept of the characters and skin.

While I didn’t have as much difficulty transitioning from League of Legends back to Valorant for the other frame, this one got me thinking since it doesn't transition well with the next frame which I used from the previous project if I follow the storyboard. Then, I figured that the previous frame draws attention to skins, which is a powerful theme in both games. However, the skins in League of Legends are character-based,, and in Valorant are gun-based skins. In order to produce a good transition, I twisted the concept from “choose your skin” for characters to “choose your skin” for guns. I drew a text in Illustrator "OR guns?" I'm not sure how to animate this text in After Effects but I'm gonna proceed to do the rest first and see how to match it with the previous frame and the frame after.
After I was done with each frame, I combined it all and added the sound effects and soundtrack. I like how it turns out and I'm quite happy I can finish this project. Not only that, but I also learn a lot about After Effects and Motion Graphics.
I consider this assignment useful to improve my skills in
marketing and branding. It was not easy or hard, but it was more like somewhere in
between those two categories. It wasn't that complicated since we didn’t have to build the elements from
scratch. But at times it is difficult to portray scenes and transition to the channel and gather its essence in 30 seconds. Furthermore, I was able to gain more practice in After Effects and develop a
better understanding about motion graphics for this project. It also offered an
amazing tutorial on how to transition from one frame to the other. Overall, I can
state that completing this task was both fun and educational.
